DR. BATONGA! CIUTAT FLAMENCO – Honor a quien honor merece

Share

A simple and sincere homage to Carmen Amaya

A project based on a series of audiovisual capsules where Carmen Amaya’s and other voices are mixed together, as well as her presence and other people’s, through sound recordings and film sequences that come and go over time, always with flamenco as the soundtrack. A tribute to the ‘Captain’ intended to draw attention to her art and transmit it to today’s generations.

Dr. Batonga!, Jordi Urpi’s alter ego as a music compiler, chronicler and music fan since 1993, is responsible for the coordination of the project, with the help and participation of different people from the worlds of music, audio-visuals, research and design, all of them strongly attracted by the personality of Carmen Amaya. As a DJ, Dr. Batonga! has appeared at various festivals and theatres around the world, including Yerevan in Armenia, Essakane in the Sahara desert, Mataró, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Marseille, Vic, Madrid, Copenhagen, Girona, Cartagena, Ljubljana, Alicante, Logroño, Bologna, Tarragona, Huesca and Malmö, always taking with him the latest urban sounds from all over the world: Arab rock, Catalan rumba, Asian underground, Latin hip hop, Balkan rhythms, African funk, and also, obviously, the musical hybridisation disseminated abroad from Barcelona.
