A piece for 15 dancers, Crowd is a meditation on love and violence within a cathartic rave, in which the young people immerse themselves in the electronic music. “The music’s intensity and the emotion that binds these people in this place create a situation that is conducive to a kind of emotional roller-coaster, or more specifically, to a large number of interrelated disorders,” Vienne says. In recent years, the artist has been exploring people’s dark side and our need for violence. Crowd is a disturbing piece that fixes our gaze on our darker side.

Gisèle Vienne is a Franco-Austrian choreographer, stage director and visual artist. She regularly works with the writer Dennis Cooper and the musicians Peter Rehberg and Stephen O’Malley.
