TAO DANCE THEATER 4 and 5

TAO Dance Theater has revolutionized the dance scene in China since it was founded in 2008. Formed and directed by Tao Ye in 2008, the company has appeared at the most important theatres and festivals in the world, from the Lincoln Center in New York to the Sydney Opera House, while also playing a permanent role in the teaching of dance in China. The company has been associated with Sadler’s Wells since 2012 as an emerging artist.

We present two numbered works in a long series in which the choreographer Tao Ye pursues his minimalist experiments: the exploration of the human body as a visual element devoid of narrative or representation. In 4, the bodies seem to look for each other while being separated by an invisible but tangible force. In 5, conversely, an invisible force holds the bodies together in an indistinguishable, kaleidoscopic mass.
