ANNE TERESA DE KEERSMAEKER / ROSAS Drumming live

Drumming (1998) is undoubtedly one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s most fascinating choreographies, an extraordinary dance accompanied by a powerful percussion score from North American minimalist composer Steve Reich. The score is based on an obsessively repeated rhythmic motif, which is multiplied and developed to achieve a rich variety of textures. And for the first time in the history of this piece the music will be performed by students from the Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC) as well as the Ictus Ensemble.

Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and her company Rosas are a key presence worldwide: even when she made her debut in 1982 with Fase, four movements to the music of Steve Reich, she attracted the attention of the international dance scene. De Keersmaeker and her dance company have created an admirable series of choreographic pieces over the past 31 years, always focussing on the relationship between music and dance. In some productions, they have also explored the relationship between dance and text.
