The friendship between the author of Cementiri de Sinera and the poet Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel inspires a show that pays homage to both on the centenary of their birth
Language: Central and Majorcan Catalan
With a title (“Flames in the dark”) that evokes one of Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel’s best-known poems, this stage piece recreates a friendship that was born in youth and was marked by mutual admiration, intellectual affinity and affection, as well as personal and ideological disagreements, in the context of the Republic, the Civil War and the postwar years. We relive this story through their poems, prose and letters in a dramaturgy based on Rosa Delor’s book La mort com a intercanvi simbòlic. Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel i Salvador Espriu: diàleg intertextual (1934-1984). Espriu, Rosselló-Pòrcel and their friend Amàlia Tineo reveal a complex, singular relationship, which extends beyond Rosselló-Pòrcel’s premature death, because Espriu continues to refer to his friend constantly in his work and throughout his life. Flames a la fosca reveals the Espriu who was once young, an unknown, emotive and moving Espriu
