JOAN CATALÀ Pelat

Pelat is the first piece by artist Joan Català, an original show combining dance, theatre and circus, where, within a circular space, the public becomes involved in the relationship between a man and a wooden pole. Silence is used to generate expectation and trigger magical, spontaneous participation. In this risky artistic undertaking everyone contributes directly or indirectly in an inimitable shared ritual, everyone is part of a moment when the “here and now” harbours a deep connection with tradition and the work and movement of many different bodies with the same goal.

Having undergone extensive training in different circus schools since 1999, Joan Català began to study contemporary dance in 2005 with choreographers such as Cecilia Colacrai, Lali Ayguadé, Perter Jacko, Sol Picó, Thomas Hauer, David Zambrano, María Muñoz and Pep Ramis, among many others. Since 2003 he has worked with numerous companies, including Sarruga Produccions, De Mortimers, La Fura dels Baus, and Los2play. He continues to work with Circus Klezmer and Compagnie Daromaï and is also involved in new processes of creation and residencies for research into movement, theatre and circus.
