A bittersweet look at the life of thousands of poor people who live on rubbish dumps. They are seekers of dreams and hopes who look amongst the rubbish for a ticket out of misery. A new play by Lluís Danés, who surprised spectators at the TNC with 'Tranuites Circus' in 2007
Language: Catalan and Spanish
Visual and object theatre, actors, gesture, circus, music… With these ingredients, and taking his inspiration from the documentary Waste Land by the British director Lucy Walker, Lluís Danés recreates on stage a landfill site inhabited by human beings and recycled objects turned into puppets. Striking and poetic, the play fuses protest and sensitivity to illustrate the breach between the first and third worlds. Wasteland combines inanimate and flesh-and-blood actors with songs by Lluís Llach played live by Xavi Lloses and others, and the guiding thread provided by the texts and voice of the Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano. Humour and hope join hands in an uplifting work that shows us the beauty of old things that, far from being useless, breathe life into a dreamlike world full of poetry
