NÚRIA GUIU

   

Starting with this 2021-22 season, and until 2023, we are partnering with Núria Guiu as El Mercat de les Flors resident artist. Guiu has presented two of her most recent works, which continue to successfully tour, Likes and Spiritual Boyfriends, and a new creation that we are co-producing, Cyberexorcisme.

AINA ALEGRE

    

Starting with this 2021-22 season, and until 2023, we are partnering with Aina Alegre as El Mercat de les Flors resident artist. Alegre has showcased two of her creations, R-A-U-X-A and La nuit, nous autres. What’s more, over the course of this season, she will be working on an upcoming piece THIS IS NOT “AN ACT OF LOVE AND RESISTANCE” which, amongst other works, El Mercat de les Flors will be coproducing.

GN | MC. GUY NADER | MARIA CAMPOS

GN | MC. Guy Nader | Maria Campos - Artistes residents del Mercat de les Flors

Guy Nader and Maria Campos have been working together since 2006. Their work has appeared at a number of different festivals and theatres, both national and international. Guy Nader, a Barcelona-based Lebanese artist, was honoured with the danceWEB Europe grant in 2012 and received First Prize at the Masdanza International Festival for his solo work Where The Things Hide. Maria Campos, who trained at SEAD in Austria and at AHK (the Amsterdam University of the Arts), has worked with Meekers, Protein Dance, Sol Picó and Àngels Margarit / Cia. Mudances, amongst others. Their most recent collaborations with companies from other countries, such as their piece Loop de loop for the Slovenian company EnKnapGroup in Ljubljana, has dramatically increased their international recognition.

ASSOCIATE ARTISTS

 

MARINA MASCARELL

Marina Mascarell - artista associada al Mercat de les Flors

Spanish/Dutch choreographer Marina Mascarell was awarded the prestigious BNG Bank Dance Prize 2015 prize for promising and talented choreographers. She has worked as an independent choreographer since 2012, creating pieces for prestigious companies such as The Hague’s NDT1, Rotterdam’s Scapino Ballet, Dance Forum Taipei, Ballet Junior Genève and Lyon Opera Ballet, whilst we at El Mercat have played host to Mongrel, her creation for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. Her creative work is an ongoing unveiling of the most pressing contemporary issues affecting the world we live in. Mascarell will be showcasing two creations over the course of the 2021-2022 Seasons, both El Mercat co-productions: Orthopedica corporatio and Bird Dog, a piece in the format of an online livestream, the result of the creative needs that has given birth to new formats during the pandemic.

HUMANHOOD

   

Our 2021-22 season sees us partnering with Humanhood as associate artists, in support of this Catalan/British company and to promote their creations. Two pieces are being presented: Zero, a duet previously premiered in Barcelona that we wish to give the city the chance to see again, and the newly created Infinit, a coproduction between London’s Sadler’s Wells company and El Mercat de les Flors itself.

ROSER LÓPEZ ESPINOSA

Roser López Espinosa - BRUIT (títol provisional)

Roser López Espinosa, who graduated in contemporary dance from AHK, the Amsterdam University of the Arts, has worked with Catalan choreographers such as Àngels Margarit, Cesc Gelabert, Iago Pericot and Pere Faura. She has been developing her own works as a creator since 2006, which have been honoured with a number of awards and are regularly enjoyed on the international stage. She is also a teacher at the Theatre Institute of Barcelona’s Conservatori Superior de Dansa and guest teacher at international centres and festival. As a choreographer, she works with international companies such as Sweden’s Skånes Dansteater, for whom she created The Entertainers.

PERE FAURA

Pere Faura - Artista resident del Mercat de les Flors

Faura graduated from Amsterdam’s School for New Dance Development (SNDO) in 2006 with a dance piece that went on to win the ITS Festival Award and was chosen to form part of the DansClick tour of the Netherlands. In the same year, he began working as resident choreographer at Amsterdam’s Frascati theatre, where he created most of his internationally debuted works, and was honoured with the prestigious Charlotte Köhler Prijs in 2009. He has now returned to Barcelona, where he works on new productions and collaborations with other creators. Faura’s work is characterised by appropriating elements from pop culture, which are then remixed into a multidisciplinary choreography that combines all of theatre’s intermeshing component parts.

ALBERT QUESADA

Albert Quesada - Flamingos

This dancer and choreographer, who splits his time between Barcelona and Brussels, trained at the Academy of Theatre and Dance at AHK (the Amsterdam University of the Arts) and PARTS (Brussels) after studying philosophy and multimedia engineering in Barcelona. The exploration and translation of musical structures and compositions in choreography, as well as the manner in which he calls upon the audience to perceive and listen to the proposed works, lie at the heart of his choreographies. He frequently works in partnership with fellow choreographer Thomas Hauert. With his company ACME, he carries out a wide variety of artistic projects, both educational and stage-based.
