JUAN CARLOS L\u00c9RIDA<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Juan Carlos L\u00e9rida is a flamenco dancer, choreographer and pedagogue. Since 2002, he has taught flamenco, contemporary dance and composition at the Institut del Teatre, an institution that awarded him a Special Prize in 2007. Together with choreographers such as Joaqu\u00edn Cort\u00e9s and Bel\u00e9n Maya he has directed various shows \u2013 and also others on his own. He has been the coordinator of the Empirical Flamenco cycle organised by the Mercat de les Flors and is acknowledged as one of the today\u2019s foremost proponents of avant-garde flamenco.<\/p>\n

The Mercat de les Flors is accompanying Juan Carlos L\u00e9rida on a new project: La liturgia de las horas<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The 2019\/20 season of DANCE AND TERRITORY will see the presentation of Doce<\/em>, the first part of La liturgia de las horas<\/em>, where L\u00e9rida draws on the foundations of what he refers to as empirical flamenco<\/em> and continues to explore the foundations and poetics of the methodology he has developed through the repetition and deconstruction of the technical bases and expressiveness of flamenco.<\/p>\n

La liturgia de las horas\u00a0<\/em>is an ample exploration, a process developed over more than two years whose aim is to conceptualize the passage of Jesus Christ from the Last Supper to the Resurrection on the basis of the symbolism of the number twelve. This research was initiated in 2018 with the preparation of a supper at the Tanzhaus Theater in D\u00fcsseldorf and will end in 2020 with a twelve-hour performance at the Mercat de les Flors during the 2020-21 season.<\/p>\n

Apart from the support of the Mercat, the project counts on the cooperation of other institutions for the presentation of different parts of the piece, with lines of work in diverse formats, such as M\u00e1quinas sagradas<\/em> at the Fira Mediterr\u00e0nia in Manresa in 2018 and the Sism\u00f2graf festival in 2020, among others.<\/p>\n
