Thanks to its flexible layout it can host many different types of show. The maximum seating capacity is 436. It is named after the city councillor who decided to convert the Mercat de les Flors into a theatre, the multifaceted woman of culture Maria Aur\u00e8lia Capmany (Barcelona, 1918-1991), an outstanding novelist and essayist interested in questions of culture and feminism, translator and scriptwriter for comics, radio and television. In 1959, together with the theatre director Ricard Salvat, she founded the Adri\u00e0 Gual School of Drama, where she premiered works of her own, such as <em>Preguntes i respostes sobre la vida i la mort de Francesc Layret, advocat dels obrers de Catalunya<\/em> and <em>L\u2019ombra de l\u2019escorp\u00ed<\/em>.
